It's All Gone Quiet!!!
« on: July 09, 2014, 08:22:50 AM »
Where have all the posters gone? You can't all be watching the World Cup/ Wimbledon/Eastenders/Pointless.

Yes I'm as guilty as anyone. With a few notable exceptions posts have all but dried up. There's lots happening around our area, some of which were talked about on here in the past. Eg demolition of the old Bretheren church has started

parking by the Diglis basin is now open.

the council have tried some repairs on the football pitches. Oh no I mentioned the F word!.

Here's a few new topics which have run through my mind recently:

Would you pay ?375k for a new build on Diglis lane next door to a clone, originally on at ?400k?

How is the litter now there are no Football matches but the youth of the area are around enjoying life and the odd glass of shandy! As I did in my youth.
Does anybody else get annoyed at dog owners who seem oblivious to what their dogs are up to: annoying other dogs/people and pooing all over the place which then doesn't get cleared up. Owners usually too engrossed in their smartphones.

Anyway that's got that off my chest. Looking forward to the torrent of response.

Have a good day, at least you're not a Brazilian football fan (probably).

I pop in here every day to catch up on events and I notice that there is a steady stream of people who do the same. I don't always post unless something has happened in the Diglis area that I feel would be interesting / important to the community.

I'm waiting (like most people I expect) for the new improvements to the Diglis fields to begin which I've just read will be soon.

So, here is my reply to your expected  torrent of response; No, I wouldn't buy a clone of a house for ?375k but as the Diglis area improves I'm sure somebody will and lots of people will start to look at the Diglis area as THE place to live in Worcester. Hope my house goes up in value as a consequence.

As for the 'F' word  :-X . Honestly, I'm hoping that there isn't that much litter dropped by unsociable people but I'd be naive if I thought there would be none. There's a lot of litter left by the new child's play ground which my wife picks up on her twice daily constitutional. Some of the yummy mummies are pig ignorant while others aren't; human nature as always prevails.

Dog owners on the whole do clean up after their dogs but my wife has identified two or three culprits but what can she do about it except tackle them and that's not advised judging from the build of these few. There is one woman, however, who has two huge white dogs and never picks, she also uses the church grounds on a regular basis but they are in the process of putting in a security camera! That may teach her to do her civic duty. Another woman who has two border collies never picks up, she is built like a Victorian toilet block; any approach to her would involve a sumo wrestling contest I suspect!

Fortunately I'm not a Brazilian fan and my bet (?20 at 10-1) is on Germany to win.

Pete,if you can identify anyone who doesn't pick up dog poo,and can give a description of the culprit, and the times they use the fields, then the dog warden will take the matter up,by watching at the appropiate times and dealing with the problem.I've noticed people sauntering along, deep in conversation on the phone, and taking no notice of what their dog is doing behind them.

According to the law "sorry I didn't know" is NOT an excuse, and culprits will be prosecuted.

You can contact the dog warden via the Hub.

Personally,I'd like to buy a PA system and bellow at them through that....but knowing my luck,I'd get done for disturbing the peace ;)

To add my  tuppence worth I'd like to add that I'm also waiting with baited breath about how the Diglis fields and CONR improvements will be starting. I also pop in here to keep up with events but I do realise that there isn't always something of interest happening in the Diglis area, perhaps that's a good thing?

One thing I have noticed is that the fields improvements that get reported in the news paper are gradually being diminished and more of the money for improvements are being reported as riverside footpath improvements. All well and good but what about the promised benches and picnic area, these have not been mentioned in the papers?

I'd like to back the idea that has been put forward of using the area once used for 'Elliots' storage. I've looked on google maps and the area is huge so maybe it could accomodate other uses like a community centre. Just a thought..

Glad I've stimulated a bit of discussion.

Pete, if you need help spending that ?200 drop me a personal message!

I'll endeavour to keep posting in my usual tongue in cheek, maybe even provocative, style. All in good fun though. In fact I'm just going to start a new thread elsewhere.

As for the Elliot's storage, sorry but it's on an industrial estate and I'd prefer to see a factory, or at least an industrial unit of some description, generating jobs and wealth.

Hi,
Elliot's old site may  be on an industrial site and once did employ people but now with the down turn of the economy it has become redundant and that is a shame when it could be utilised for much needed parking. There are new businesses that have started up in the basin area that desperately require parking, I,m sure they will prosper if more parking was available, probably employing more people than the Elliot's storage site ever did.

I feel these things should be looked at in the round and let's wave goodbye to the old industries and concentrate on high tec firms employing skilled workers in the IT section, like Postcode anywhere who are creating lots of jobs.

Lets not forget that the whole Diglis development was built on an industrial site.

Hi Fred,

Thanks for posting. I agree. I think my choice of words was a bit off, what I meant by an industrial unit of some sorts was probably better phrased as a commercial unit. I agree that hi-tech is one of the main ways forward.
Interesting that people have said that loos are needed for footballers (and others?) and what do Elliot's supply amongst others things? Yes temporary loos!
They must have supplied literally 100's for the Olympics, I did try and work out how many portable buildings were stacked up there in early summer of 2012 but I don't think I ever came up with a number. Anybody out there work for or got contacts within Elliot's to supply an answer?

Thanks Eco Warrior

Now what to spend it on? Perhaps a romantic evening meal out with my wife, or some fly fishing tackle?

Probably the fishing tackle.  :D
