Lovely bit of sunshine
« on: July 31, 2012, 05:09:33 PM »
Yes,I know it's been raining the last couple of days, but prior to that we had a few hot days.Went over to the nature reserve (now there in perpetuity thanks to the Queen Elizabeth Fields Challenge, and possibly Kreeds 'phone call to Buckingham Palace.....)

Apparently the reserve is to have some sort of plaque.......

Am now recording a few more butterflies than in May and June, which was disastrous generally for most reserves in the wet areas of Britain. Now seeing Small and Large Skippers,Holly Blues,Commas,Gatekeepers,Meadow Browns and Ringlets. Also the odd Small Tortoiseshell and Peacock.

The Michaelmas Daisies are in abundance, also blackberries.I recently met a woman over there who proudly told me that she made 20lbs of blackberry jam,and froze 10lbs of damsons from the reserve last year. She was astounded when I suggested she left the fruit for the animals over there as it helped them over the autumn and into winter when the fruit fell from the trees. It is after all a nature reserve!

Aye, and it takes an awful lot of blackberries to make 20LB of jam!
