Take Pride Event
« on: May 02, 2013, 04:43:02 PM »
The Wild life Rangers hope to involve local volunteers to install a set of steps and re-profile a steep bank on the reserve, tying the practical task into the ?Take Pride? initiative running this year.

We are thinking about the third or fourth weekend in June as possible dates, but we would be interested to know which day and date would be the preferred  majority option?

Please post here on the date you may be able to help and if you are are able to to undertake this sort of work.

I'd love to help but June is out for me I'm afraid. I can do the first three weekends in July if that's any help.

Good for Diglis but not good for me - I am available June and July, mostly weekends though.

I might be able to do last weekend in June or first in July.  Not sure that I would be the most useful helper tho' - my practical outdoor skills are very limited!

Looking a bit like the first weekend in July then?
Any men coming....with the best will in the world i'm as much use as a chocolate fireguard when it comes to wielding a sledgehammer?

Sorry if that sounded a bit sexist :-[

Surely there are some chaps half my age and twice as fit who would be willing to help out?

OK folks,

We've narrowed it down to the 1st Weekend in July, so please let us know which day you would attend:

Saturday 6th July
or
Sunday 7th July?
or
Either?

(Can't work out how to create a poll, have I missed something obvious??)

Once the date is fixed we will advertise it more widely and on site, I know there will be a few people interested who don't look at this forum (yet!).

There will be some precision aspects to the task, as well as sledgehammer/ pickaxe wielding!

Some people are worried, that because they're not particularly strong (like me actually),that they're not going to be of any use on the 7th.

Have spoken to Trev (Ranger) and he says don't worry about it....just come along and enjoy the day anyway :)

The hottest day of the year and a fantastic turn out for the Take Pride event in Diglis.

Friends of Diglis Fields, Wildlife rangers, Angela (Postcode Anywhere) and Cllr. Denham all turned up.Some folk walking their dogs joined in too. Thank you all for making the effort. :)

Those of us who felt unable to wield tools, did a butterfly survey, the best this year so far.

We had a lunchbreak, after which we enjoyed iced lollies;then it was back to the grindstone....

The event was well organized, but with a laid back feel, enjoyed by all and we now have a new interpretation board next to the railway in Waverley St,and an improved slope and steps towards the southern end of the reserve.

So,again a big thank you to all.Hope you enjoy the photos :)

Hello all,

A big thank you to everyone for your efforts yesterday! And for carrying on in the blistering heat!
We've been back today and it's all looking great still.

I've taken some pictures too of the "board team" - I'll upload them soon.

The ice lollies were most welcome, thanks Jane!

Thanks again, it was great to meet some of you for the first time!

One of our pictures from yesterday - I can't work out how to post the thumbnails like you have Jaybee!

We hope you all enjoyed it, if you have any feed back or suggestions for next time, you can fill in a form online at www.worcester.gov.uk/parks - click on "Event Feedback" in the menu on the left.
