Childrens playground
« on: April 27, 2013, 10:05:57 AM »
Does anyone have any news on when and if the Waverley St playground is to re open. It's such a well used playground and much missed judging by the howls of despair I've heard on passing there....and that's just from the parents ;)

With summer hopefully "just around the corner" you'd expect some work being done now. Is any 106 money going toward this?

Looking at the photographs and the wording of the notice it wouldn't surprise me if this is the start of the removal of the play ground. They are directing people to Weir Lane and Bath Road so there isn't really any incentive to improve this one and I doubt that any of the trees will be removed.

Is this the thin end of the wedge to clear the area for development? :-\

I was in the same meeting as Warwick Neale last week and asked him about the Diglis playground afterwards.  He thought that the repairs would probably be dependent on the Section 106 money and the overall plans for those funds.

Thanks for asking Lynn. What I would really like to know is how long is it going to take? Months? A year? Longer?

Might be easier to issue all kids with a crash helmet?

 ;)

Bumped into David Sutton yesterday morning who told me that the play area equipment has now been ordered!  :)

Yep, looks good. I assume the new play equipment behind the contractor cages will be moved in to replace the existing play area and not left there as an extension?

As far as I know it's staying to the side for now and will eventually be moved to wherever the playground goes when the 106 improvements are carried out.

The new play area at Waverley St should be open from this Thursday 9th January 2014.

We are hoping that next week the local press will be there for a photo opportunity so please bring along your children to give this area a full blown testing.
Time and date to be announced.  :)

The barriers have been moved, and it looks as tho' the play area is open for business.

None of this would have been done without our secretary Claire's emails, phone calls, bringing the playground subject up at various meetings, posting on the website and contacting the council on a regular basis. She never gave up,and Diglis fields now has a new play area thanks to her tenacity :)
