Possible Volunteer activities on the Nature Reserve
« on: March 15, 2013, 10:55:07 AM »
Hello all,

We are thinking about our programme of volunteer activities for the year, and we would like to offer more opportunities for the Friends and other residents to get involved at Cherry Orchard Nature Reserve.

We will be continuing with the annual "Bramble Bash" activity, but we were also thinking about:

Improving or installing some steps and entrances -any time of year
Balsam bashing - cutting or pulling this invasive species alongside the river and brook  - May / June
Cutting back footpaths - June-september

What do you think?
We would normally run these events on a Saturday or Sunday 10:00 til 13:00, and they would be open to anyone. Realistically we could run 2 sessions this year.

regards,

Heather

Hi Heather, sounds good to me. I couldn't make it to the bramble bash but would definitely help out with any of the projects you suggested.

Ok, I will get some suggestions for dates together in the next couple of weeks.
Which is the preferred day, Saturday or Sunday?

Either fine with me. Other half works shifts so it just depends on whether or not he is off work & can look after the kids  :)

I'm ok for Sat or Sun,but not the weekend of 20th/21 April as it's the litterpick on 20th and on 21st,the engineers have kindly agreed to let "The friends of Diglis Fields" have a table sale on the miniature train field at their first function of the year.

We'll be on the train field talking to people, raising awareness of what we hope to achieve, finding out what people want to see on the fields, how the fields can be improved.

To boost funds we'll have books, toys and childrens clothes for sale.

More info later.
